Arlington's Village Community Services needs volunteers, donations for 'Taste of Decadence'

SMOKEY POINT — Village Community Services are aiming to offer a taste of "Wonderland" to those who join them in helping out community members with disabilities, but they could use some support behind the scenes to do it.

VCS's ninth annual "Taste of Decadence" fundraiser on April 9 has adopted "Alice in Wonderland" as its theme, and they're looking for volunteers and donors to help them make it a wonderful experience for everyone involved.

Volunteers can put in two hours or more of work between 10 a.m. and 9 p.m. on the day of the event through set-ups and decorations, donation check-ins, the silent auction, registration, as greeters and parking attendants, and by cleaning up afterward. Donations of silent auction items and professionally made desserts are also needed.

The Taste of Decadence will feature not only those desserts, but also an Italian Supper by the Church Ladies catering and a musical performance by VCS's "Voices of the Village."

This year's keynote speaker will be Dylan Kuehl, an artist and musician who's outspoken in his political advocacy for himself and others with Down syndrome and other disabilities.

VCS supports adults with developmental disabilities in achieving their personal potential at home, at work and in the community. Taste of Decadence tickets are $25 each and a request for donations will be made at the event. The event takes place at the Stillaguamish Senior Center Banquet Hall, located at 18308 Smokey Point Blvd. in Arlington, starting at 5:30 p.m. on April 9.
