EvCC Literacy Center seeks volunteer tutors

EVERETT – Everett Community College's Adult Literacy Center is seeking volunteers who can offer two or more hours per week to assist adults learning reading, writing, English speaking and basic math.

Volunteers must have patience, possess good literacy skills, and be sensitive to a variety of learning styles and ethnic backgrounds. Tutoring times and locations are flexible. Training is free with a six-month commitment.

The EvCC Adult Literacy Program assists Snohomish County adults in gaining the skills needed to progress to technical certification programs, college entrance, citizenship, and, for some, the basic skills needed for survival.

EvCC's "Lions for Literacy" program serves more than 500 adult students every year.

"Volunteers are often the key that leads to the students' success in classes, as family members, employees, and community members," volunteer coordinator Judy Frost said.
