ARLINGTON — After losing one of its host churches, the Arlington cold weather shelter was faced with no longer having a home on Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays, even as weather forecasts called for freezing cold temperatures.
Fortunately, the Immaculate Conception Church of Arlington has been able to step up to fill the gap.
While the shelter was not able to open on Tuesday, Feb. 4, it's set to reopen on Wednesday, Feb. 5, and remain open on Thursday, Feb. 6, at the Immaculate Conception Church on both nights.
The Arlington cold weather shelter opened in November, and will remain open through March, from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. whenever the weather forecasts predict evening temperatures below 32 degrees for at least three hours.
On Sunday and Monday nights, it's located at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, at 1200 E. Fifth St. in Arlington, and on the evenings of Friday and Saturday, it's located at the Arlington United Church at 338 N. MacLeod Ave.
The Arlington United Church is set to host the cold weather shelter again on Friday, Feb. 7, and Saturday, Feb. 8.
A light dinner and breakfast are usually served at each shelter location, but the shelter's other rules might vary according to location.
