Red Cross offers training scholarships

The Snohomish County Chapter of the American Red Cross is offering scholarships for health and safety training to active duty members of the Armed Forces, reservists, National Guard personnel and veterans, including family members in all categories.

Courses available for free tuition are first aid, adult CPR/AED, infant/child CPR, HIV/Aids, and babysitter training. Bev Walker, chapter Service to the Armed Forces director, advises that a limited number of scholarship vouchers will be provided on a first come, first served basis. Funding for the program is from a grant from the Department of Defense.

To qualify, applicants must be assigned to a military unit located in Snohomish County, or be a resident of the county. Proof of military status or relationship to the military member is required. Courses must be completed by May 31, 2009. The offering will end earlier if grant funds become depleted.

Vouchers must be presented on the first day of training, but registration for a course should be made early due to class enrollment limitations. All classes will be held at the Red Cross Chapter, 2530 Lombard Ave., Everett.

For information, or to request a scholarship voucher, contact the Red Cross Service to the Armed Forces Office at Naval Station Everett, Bldg 2000, Room 212, during office hours, Mon – Fri, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., phone:425-304-4476, or call the chapter’s Health & Safety Office, 425- 740-2321.
