Boulton honored with lifetime achievement award

ARLINGTON — The Stillaguamish Senior Center will be honoring longtime Arlington resident George Boulton on Sept. 16.

Boulton, 73, will receive the lifetime achievement award for his work within the community during the past 40 years.

This year marks the center’s fourth annual lifetime achievement breakfast.

Previous honorees include Howard Christianson, Don Meirs, Ruth and Harry Yost and Dick Post.

The master of ceremonies will be former Snohomish County Executive Bob Drewel.

The breakfast begins at 7:30 a.m. at the center, located at 18308 Smokey Point Blvd.

Boulton and his wife, Annalee, purchased in 1968 what was then known as Peg’s Floral in Arlington.

Renaming the shop Flowers by George shortly after, Boulton went on to join the Arlington Kiwanis Club, the Arlington Chamber of Commerce and helped organized a number of city events throughout the years.

Boulton was also instrumental, along with then-Mayor John Larson, in eliminating the long-distance telephone fee between Everett and other northern Snohomish County cities and town.

In addition to being named Citizen of the Year by the chamber in 1990, the Arlington Garden Club in 2001 and the Masonic Lodge in 2005, Boulton was grand marshall of the Frontier Days Parade in 1993.

He also received the Kiwanis Hixson Fellowship Award in 2003 and a Community Recognition Award from the Arlington School District in 2003.
