ARLINGTON — Staying active and volunteering are the secret to long life if you believe Anna Lockhart.
The Arlington resident will turn 104 years old on Thursday, Jan. 28, and family members held a birthday party for her at Cascade Valley Senior Living on Sunday, Jan. 24.
“She lived on her own until she was almost 101,” said Maureen Depuy, Lockhart’s daughter. “She’s a pretty social person and she’s still pretty active.”
Originally immigrating to the United States when she was about 26, Lockhart lived in New York and Colorado before moving to Washington state when she was 95, Depuy said.
Lockhart has volunteered for a number of organizations and nursing homes in the past, her daughter said, and is a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Arlington.
About 50 family members and friends attended Lockhart’s birthday party.
“She’s had good health and she has a very good outlook,” Depuy said. “She’s always been very active and has helped others.”
