Arlington announces upcoming classes

ARLINGTON - The city of Arlington has announced its upcoming classes.

Basic First Aid Classes

Participants learn to recognize the signs and symptoms of injuries and sudden illness. Crucial information about how to deal with emergencies. Certified Instructor. Renew your existing certification or become First Aid Certified. OSHA, WISHA, L&I and DSHS approved. For adults and youth ages 12 and older.

Time: 6-9 p.m.

Fee: $30 reduced to $25 if taking CPR class.

CPR and AED for the Community and Workplace

This course teaches the chain of survival, activation of 911, emergency response, airway obstruction and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). Also discusses childhood injury prevention and information on adult heart attacks and strokes. AED discussion. Renew your existing certification or become CPR Certified. OSHA, WISHA, L&I and DSHS approved. For adults and youth 12 & older.

Babysitting Basics

This instructional course is geared for youth, ages 10-14 that would like to receive babysitting certification. Offered by Campfire, but open to all. Participants will learn how to feed and diaper infants and toddlers, handle children’s bed and bath routines, set limits and handle troublesome behaviors, prevent accidents and respond to emergencies. Participants must attend both days to receive certification. Bring sack lunch or snack.

Tiger Family Martial Arts Program (all ages)

A great program for the whole family to get fit, have fun and learn some self-defense skills. The program teaches the kicks of Tae Kwon Do, the basic moves of Karate, and the stances of Kung Fu with bag kicking and padded sword fighting for fun. Beginners class lasts 45 minutes, colored belts stay longer and learn more advanced skills. Class is for ages 4 and up, all levels and abilities welcome. A rare chance to train from an 8th Degree Master with 30 years of teaching experience who has trained from the Grand Masters of Asia in the striking, grappling and weapon arts.

Early Winter: Thursdays, Jan. 6 – Feb. 24 — Fee is $80 for eight weeks

Late Winter: Thursdays, March 3-24 — Fee is $40 for four weeks

Fees: An additional Amateur Athletic Union fee to instructor $12 youth, $14 adult (annual fee)

Budding Chefs, Cooking Classes for Kids ages 5-12

This class gives children the opportunity to experience a variety of cooking methods which they use to create delicious meals. They will learn to measure and mix ingredients, use a variety of kitchen tools, follow recipes, learn the basics of etiquette, nutrition, food safety and more. Each class has a fun theme.

Dates: Jan. 15 - Get Out of Town; Feb. 12 - Pirate Treasure Hunt

Culinary Arts Basics Series

Michael Aspen, a locally and internationally trained personal chef and culinary educator will introduce you to sound fundamentals in the art of cooking. Aspen completed the two-year program as Culinary Arts Student of the Year and has been teaching cooking classes for five years throughout the area. Classically trained, he will entertain you with stories of world travel and samplings of delicious food. This is a four-part series, but you may attend any of the following classes. Appropriate for ages 14 and up.
