ARLINGTON — The Linda M. Byrnes Performing Arts Center in Arlington will host the Olympic Ballet Theatre's presentation of the traditional holiday favorite, "The Nutcracker," in abridged form on Friday, Dec. 7, at 10:30 a.m., and in full on Saturday, Dec. 8, at 2 p.m.

The production closes at the Everett Performing Arts Center, with performances on Saturday, Dec. 22,  at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., and Sunday, Dec. 23, at 1 p.m. and 5 p.m.

Artistic directors Oleg Gorboulev and Mara Vinson, former leading dancers of the Moscow Classical Ballet and Pacific Northwest Ballet, are bringing their professional expertise to a cast of nearly 100, led by specially invited renowned guest artists.

With its tale of Clara's magical dream on Christmas Eve, the Olympic Ballet Theatre's "The Nutcracker" aims to bring resounding joy to audiences of all ages.

Adding to the allure of the production this year are two casts of guest ballerinas who will share the role of the adult Clara. Nancy Richer, from the Suzanne Farrell Ballet in Washington, D.C., will dance in Arlington, while freelance guest artist Jennifer Safonovs will dance the role in the Everett performances. Returning to the stage is Olympic Ballet Theatre favored guest artist Le Yin, who reprises his role as the Nutcracker Prince. Premiering in the role of the mysterious Herr Drosselmeyer is Frank Borg, formerly of the Kansas City Ballet.

Prices are $30 for adults, $25 for students and seniors, and $20 for children under 10 years of age. Service charges apply. All seats are reserved.

The hour-long matinee on Dec. 7 will include the Olympic Ballet Theatre signature "Introduction to the Magic of Theatre," presenting scenery, costumes, lighting, masks and props, all suitable for young children.
