McElroy siblings offer recitals June 8
Colleen McElroy, Arlington High School senior, and Eric McElroy, AHS sophomore, will each present a recital Sunday, June 8, at Arlington United Church, 338 N. McLeod Ave.
Colleen's Senior Flute Recital will begin at 6:30 p.m. and Eric's Sophomore Piano Recital will begin at 7:30 p.m.
Each recital will be approximately 40 minutes followed by a reception.
The sister and brother have each been involved in their own myriad of musical activities through the years.
Colleen has won flute performance awards in county, regional, state, and Northwest regional competitions. Both won concerto competitions this year with the Port Gardner Bay Chamber Orchestra and Everett Symphony Orchestra.
As a result of recent competitions, they were selected to perform in honors recitals at the Washington State Music Teachers state convention in June.
Colleen studies flute with Iris Ingram of Lake Stevens. She will perform works by Bach, Chaminade, Poulenc, Feld and Schocker.
Eric studies piano with Maria Sier of Snohomish. He will perform works by Bach, Beethoven, Liszt, Debussy, Ginastera and Copland, as well as one of his own compositions. Eric has won many piano performance awards on county and state levels and his compositions for piano, brass quintet, and concert band have received awards in county, state, and national competitions, most notably from National PTA and from Music Educators National Conference. Indeed, his work was performed at the recent 2008 national convention of MENC and his most recent piano composition has been choreographed for dance by Dean Speer of Seattle and will be performed at the Arlington School of Dance recital June 6 and 7.
Colleen was recently honored as a Washington Scholar and will be attending the University of Washington come fall.
Eric intends to pursue a career in composing, conducting and performing.
