Future photographer, marine biologist students of the month

MARYSVILLE – Andrew Thill and Sarah Romero, seniors at Marysville-Pilchuck High School, are the Soroptimist-Kiwanis Students of the Month for November.

Andrew is an entrepreneur who already owns his own business, called Andrewthillphoto. He photographs all types of activities for the M-PHS yearbook. He also shot many senior pictures. His goal is to become a professional editorial engagement and wedding photographer. He plans to either continue his education through his mentor or in the Photomedia program at the University of Washington.

Andrew is very involved a school, competing in wrestling, track and football. He was on the Homecoming Court last year and was nominated again this year. He also is part of AVID, mentoring a freshman student. Andrew is active in community service. He volunteers as a cashier at the Living Room Coffee House. He also is a volunteer counselor at a couple of church camps, and even received an award for his work at the Pinewood camp. He also has volunteered at a middle school track meet.

To get a jump on college he is taking upper-level classes to get credits. Sarah also is involved in AVID, much more so actually. She is club president this year, and was Student of the Year and club treasurer as a junior. She has also won the “most organized” and “teacher assistant” awards for AVID.

“I do as much as I can to help out,” she said. “I do a lot of peer tutoring.”

Sarah has lettered in marching band and Winterguard all four years. She is captain of the color guard in band. And in Winterguard they do dance, flags, rifle and saber competitions. She also is involved in her church youth group.

For community service, Sarah volunteers at The Living Room Coffee House. She appreciates that she has learned job skills and received free training there. She also has volunteered for the Equine Rez-Q, as a fourth-grade camp counselor, a grade school teacher assistant and has done custodial work for Rising Stars Gymnastics.

Sarah said she likes being busy. She doesn’t want to be one of those adults who says years later they wish they did more in high school.

“It’s hard to sit still,” she said of herself.

Sarah loves science and hopes to attend either Western Washington or the University of Washington and become a marine biologist.

Her goal is to “preserve the ocean, clean up the trash,” or better yet, “prevent it” from being polluted in the first place.
