Poetry Slam branches out from MG to library

MARYSVILLE – Poetry Slams have been popular at Marysville Getchell High School, but now they are branching out to the library.

A Teen Poetry Slam for all will take place at 7 p.m. April 12 at the Marysville Library, 6120 Grove St. Teens in ninth to 12th grade (14-18 years old) are welcome, no matter what school they attend. Snacks will be served. No advanced sign-ups are required. The event will offer fun writing prompts and challenges designed to tap their imagination. Participants can experiment with blackout or book spine poetry, and other activities. Supplies will be provided. Bring your own poem or poems to read. The focus will be a free expression of teens’ ideas, emotions and thoughts.

Cass Robbins, president of the Marysville High School Writing for Publications Club, said she’s excited to expand the slams beyond MG.

Teen librarian Marta Murvosh said, “The energy, imagination and passion the teens in our community bring to their creative endeavours is inspiring.”
