Scouts perform community service work around M’ville

MARYSVILLE – If you go to Jennings Park anytime soon you can thank the Scouts for sprucing up the place.

Scouts from all over the area did community service projects Oct. 7. Local sites, besides the park, included Allen Creek Elementary and the Marysville Food Bank.

Mike Sullivan with the city said troops sometimes volunteer to help so they can earn badges. But this was the first time they had done something like this collectively.

About 15 Scouts and adults associated with them cleaned up the entrance to Jennings Park. They raked leaves, picked up branches and acorns, and weeded flower beds for a few hours.

“It’s fun working with the Boy and Cub Scouts,” Sullivan said.

Cub Master Grant Morgan said packs 117 and 45 were involved. He added that the Mount Baker Council is celebrating the Centennial Day of Service for being charted with the Boy Scouts of America for 100 years. Meanwhile, Rob and Grace Ustaris of Troop 180 had a pet food drive to restock the shelves at the food bank.
