Arlington Nativity Festival aims to provide premiere holiday experience for all faiths
ARLINGTON — In the midst of holiday seasons that are often preoccupied by scoring shopping discounts on Black Friday and Cyber Monday, members of the Arlington Stake of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints want to draw the community's focus onto celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ, through an annual attraction that they enjoy sharing with visitors of all faiths.
From Dec. 6-9, the Arlington Nativity Festival will again serve as a showcase for hundreds of nativities among evergreens and white lights, including a live nativity intended to portray the humble manger scene reverently.
Younger visitors can play with their friends, handle kid-friendly nativity pieces and make crafts in the children's activity room. Children will even have the chance to dress up in period costumes and have their photos taken in a children's nativity scene, complete with stables and handmade wooden animals. Copies of the photos will be available for free download from a secure site.
A fireplace setting within this year's Life of Christ room will focus on bringing hope into people's homes through a Christ-centered life. Artwork and objects depicting the journey of Christ will be found throughout the space.
Live music will help set the backdrop for the festival, with the event's themes of hope and charity culminating in two evening choral performances.
The festival is open from 4-8:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 6, and Friday, Dec. 7, as well as from noon to 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 8, and from 3-8:30 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 9. The choral concerts will kick off at 7 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
The Arlington Nativity Festival is a non-denominational event that takes place at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, located at 17222 43rd Ave. NE in Arlington. The church is just across the street from Walmart, off of the 172nd Street exit to Arlington. Details about the festival are available online at www.arlingtonnativityfestival.org. Parking and admission are free.
