Old Bags’ raffle raises money for local groups

ARLINGTON — The Old Bags of Arlington raffled off an assortment of meats during its recent fundraiser.
Arlington resident Judy Claxton received a gift certificate for a collection of meats from Silvana Meats valued at $126 during the women’s club’s first Meat Raffle on Sunday, Oct. 18.
More than 1,300 $1 raffle tickets were sold leading up to the raffle.
Claxton is the Chairperson for the Toys for Kids drive, organized by the American Legion Post 76 in Arlington.
Claxton received a gift certificate for the meats from Etta (Babe) Melhart, President of the women’s group.
The Old Bags of Arlington raises money to benefit local children and families who need help but do not meet the criteria for state or national charities.
The group conducts raffles and sells baked goods and other hand-crafted items, and have helped a number of local groups.
