Suspect in Blue Stilly Park homicide in custody

The person suspected of firing the weapon which struck a 20-year-old Ryan C. Mumm, of Stanwood, is in custody. The shooting took place at Blue Stilly Park near Arlington the evening of July 14. Mumm died July 15 from his injuries at an Everett hospital.
Snohomish Health District offers tips to avoid rabies from bats

Every summer, the Snohomish Health District takes dozens of calls about bats and how to stay healthy around them. Bats are the primary carriers of rabies in the Pacific Northwest, and are found in almost every county in Washington. Rabies causes a rare but often fatal illness in humans, and in wild and domestic animals. Rabies is transmitted through the saliva of the animal, which can be introduced through a bite or scratch.
United Way hosts Volunteer Appreciation Night at the Everett AquaSox

EVERETT — For more than a dozen years, United Way of Snohomish County has hosted Volunteer Appreciation Night at the Everett AquaSox. This year's event, featuring free tickets to all volunteers in Snohomish County and their families, will be held on Monday, Aug. 6, starting at 6:40 p.m. in the Everett Memorial Stadium, located at 3900 Broadway in Everett. The organization will also present the winner of this year's Roger Bouck Award for Volunteerism in Action just before the first pitch against the Boise Hawks.

Viral hepatitis might be closer than you think, according to the international organizers of World Hepatitis Day on Saturday, July 28.
In support of the global awareness campaign, the Snohomish Health District will display hepatitis information through Tuesday, July 31, in the atrium of the Rucker Building, located at 3020 Rucker Ave. in Everett. The Health District also will feature hepatitis information on "The Takeaway" radio program at 8:40 a.m. on Thursday, July 26, on KSER 90.7 FM.
