SMOKEY POINT — The new Walmart near 172nd Street NE is continuing to take shape.

Construction crews are slated to have the 154,000-square-foot store completed by the end of September and officials said they are still planning for an Oct. 27 grand opening, said Jennifer Spall, Walmart spokesperson.

Most recently, crews have been working on drywall finishes, painting and installing flooring and ceiling in the building. The store's refrigeration and refrigerated cooler cases are also currently being installed, Spall said, adding that the store's power, phone and sprinkler systems are operational.

Crews are planning to begin landscape planting during the week of Aug. 17. Paving for the parking lot is scheduled to be completed by the end of August.

Work on the $8 million store began in January.
