Accident blocks all northbound lanes of I-5 near Arlington

ARLINGTON — As of 11:46 a.m. on Jan. 21, all northbound lanes of I-5 near Arlington were blocked after a multi-car crash.

According to Washington State Patrol Trooper Keith Leary, a collision between six vehicles, one of which was a semi-trailer truck, occurred at mile post 208 near the Stillaguamish River at approximately 11:01 a.m.

"It's non-life-threatening, so we're just getting those vehicles moved right now," Leary said at 11:46 a.m. "Apparently, one vehicle had stopped in its lane just prior, which seems to have set off a chain reaction. Right now, it's backed up about a mile and a half on the northbound lanes of I-5."

Leary suggested using Highway 530 and Highway 9 as detours, as well as turning around at Island Crossing.

The Washington state Department of Transportation did not have an estimate of when the freeway would reopen as of press time.
