Arlington Police investigating Smokey Point bank robbery
ARLINGTON - On Saturday, Sept. 8, at approximately 11:35 a.m., Arlington Police responded to the Smokey Point Branch of Key Bank located in the 17300 block of Smokey Point Drive for the report of a robbery that had just occurred.
The suspect entered the bank, displayed a large frame pistol and demanded money. The suspect threatened to shoot the tellers several times while aiming the firearm at the tellers. The suspect then fled the bank on foot with an undisclosed amount of money. Arlington Police Officers, Snohomish County Sheriff's Office Deputies, and Stillaguamish Tribal Police Officers arrived within three minutes of the 9-1-1 call. A Lynnwood Police Department K9 team responded and conducted a K9 track of the area without success.
The suspect is described as a man, approximately 5'8" to 5'9" in height, with a slender build. He was wearing a light blue or gray colored, zip-up hooded sweatshirt with the hood up, blue jeans with light fading on the front and yellow stitching on the back pockets, and dark or black colored shoes. The suspect was wearing a black colored ski mask, scarf or cloth over his face with only the eyes cut out and one witness described the suspect's skin around his eyes as being light in color and the suspect was wearing black gloves and carrying a black colored backpack. The suspect's weapon was described as a large frame pistol. The suspect was described as speaking in short, clipped sentences, described as possibly being of an Asian accent.
A canvas of the area revealed several businesses with video surveillance footage showing a man matching the suspect's description arriving in the area approximately 30 minutes before the robbery on a bicycle. The suspect was seen riding around to familiarize himself with the area before committing the robbery. Surveillance footage showed the suspect fleeing the scene in a northbound direction on the bicycle immediately after the robbery.
