On May 12, the Arlington Garden Club honored lifetime member Myrtle Ruckert for her 68 years of service to the club. Ruckert joined the Arlington Garden Club in 1941. She was president of the club in 1970 and 1971 and served as treasurer for 18 years. Ruckert worked at J. C. Penny’s in Arlington for 29 years and she volunteered at the Stillaguamish Senior Center for 38 years as well. During the club’s monthly luncheon, Ruckert was joined at the head table by members who have been with the club for more than 30 years including Gloria Carlson, Diane King, Shirley Monger, Johnadine Wolf, Connie Dreke, Inez Kuhnhausen and Roberta Lothian. “Many favorite Myrtle Ruckert stories were shared with 60 fellow members and a good time was had by all,” said Barb Woodward. Coming up at the club’s “June Fling” the club’s annual award which is named after Myrtle Ruckert, the Myrtle Ruckert Award will be presented to Duane Weston, retired from the Pilchuck Tree Farm. The annual award recognizes citizens of Arlington for valuable contributions to the community.For information about the June Fling, call Woodward at 360-652-2338.
