Construction crews start work on 67th Ave. NE
ARLINGTON — After much anticipation, the city of Arlington began construction the week of Monday, April 8, through Friday, April 12. on the final phase of improvements to 67th Avenue NE. The fully-funded project includes improvements that are designed to benefit drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians, including a new road surface and center-turn lane, a traffic signal at 211th Place NE, and completion of the Centennial Trail. Construction is anticipated to last approximately one year.
"This is an important project for the city of Arlington and we are committed to keeping the community informed about our progress and potential impacts," Arlington Mayor Barbara Tolbert said. "The city is also committed to providing access throughout the project area so customers can continue supporting our local businesses."
During the first two weeks of construction, the public can expect to see crews mobilizing equipment, staking out the construction area, placing construction signage, installing erosion control measures such as silt fences, saw-cutting sections of the existing roadway, and removing landscaping in the project area.
During the week of April 8-12, drivers can expect minor traffic impacts, with possible slowdowns expected near the entrance of the construction yard on 211th Place NE due to large equipment moving into the area. During the week of April 15-19, traffic on 67th Avenue NE will be shifted toward the east side of the roadway to begin work on the west side near the Stillaguamish Valley Pioneer Museum. Two-way traffic will be maintained at all times through on-site flaggers and other traffic control measures. Motorists, pedestrians and bicyclists are encouraged to exercise caution when traveling through the project area in order to help maintain safety.
To keep the community informed throughout construction, the city has set up a project website at www.67thAve.org and will provide regular updates through the city's e-newsletter. The public can also email questions to 67thAve@ArlingtonWA.gov or call the project information line at 360-594-2425.
The city of Arlington has been working since 2001 to improve safety and mobility for drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians on 67th Avenue NE. The 67th Avenue Final Phase includes improvements to 67th Avenue NE between 204th Street NE and Lebanon Street. It has taken many seasons of hard work to get to this point in the project and the city of Arlington looks forward to the end result.
