Free prom dresses available

MARYSVILLE Prom night is an important time in the lives of most teens but, for some, the cost of a new prom dress can be more than they can afford.
Thanks to a local organization, no girl will have to do without and will be able to attend their junior or senior prom in style.
Royal Enchantments, whose motto is Every young woman deserves to feel like royalty, is giving away free prom dresses April 14, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the North Everett Boys and Girls Club, 2316 12th St.
Any girl who is a junior or senior in high school and has an ASB card can pick up a free dress, no questions asked, said Paulette Olson, a volunteer with Royal Enchantments. We serve young women from south King County all the way north to Skagit County, Olson said.
This is the second year for the event which hands out the new or gently used prom dresses.
Last year, our first year, we handed out approximately 30 dresses, Olson said. This year our goal is to give away 100 dresses. Olson noted that Royal Enchantments has already had between 500-600 dresses donated so there will be a large selection from which the girls can choose.
In addition to providing free dresses, Royal Enchantments has made arrangements to have any needed alterations done so that the dresses properly fit the young women. There will be people on-site to do alterations the day of the event. In addition, because some of the gowns may be more challenging to alter because of the way they are made, Royal Enchantments has made arrangements with members of the American Sewing Guild who will pick up their dresses, do the needed alterations, and then return it to the young women. The young women will also be offered jewelry and shoes and hair and make-up consultations, all at no charge.
