SMOKEY POINT Jack Hamilton and Matt Luque celebrated their 7th birthdays in a more mature fashion than one might expect from adults many times their age.
Matt turned 7 years old Nov. 11, and Jack turned 7 years old Nov. 24, but because theyve been best friends since they were born, according to their mothers, they scheduled both their birthday parties Nov. 30. The presents they received went to other children the next day.
Jack and Matt got 17 gifts from their friends, all of which they donated to the Starbucks Starlight Starbright Childrens Foundation Dec. 1, through Starbucks Smokey Point location, and they couldnt have been more pleased.
We had fun doing it, Matt said.
We knew other kids dont get presents like us, so we wanted them to be happy, Jack said.
According to mothers Heidi Hamilton and Jennifer Luque, Matt and Jack were inspired by older brothers Beau Hamilton and Michael Luque, who donated books and raised $325 for the Pioneer Elementary library in February through a similar party.
One girl wasnt able to attend, but she sent a present anyway, Jennifer said. All the children knew their presents would be given away.
Another boy has been inspired to donate all of his presents during his birthday, Heidi said. Both of our families want to teach our kids how important it is to give back to the community.
