MOMS Club cleans up Terrace Park
ARLINGTON Mothers from Arlington, Stanwood and Camano Island descended upon Terrace Park April 3, to help fix up the place that a number of them visit with their children.
More than half a dozen members of the local chapter of the MOMS Club helped Chris Fox, a senior maintenance worker with the city of Arlington Parks and Recreation Department, pick up litter and weed out the landscaped beds of Terrace Park.
Among the areas that the moms and their kids worked on were the 12-foot by 8-foot sign bed at the entrance to the park, the 20-foot by 5-foot bed near the bathrooms, and the 30-foot by 8-foot bed that runs along the parks eastern fence.
If they didnt do it, Id have to do it myself, said Fox, as mothers armed with city-provided spades, rakes, shovels and wheelbarrows pulled grass from the beds, turned their bark, tidied their edges, cleared brush and dug up roots. Its really great that they have an interest in making the park look nice, especially in time for the summer.
According to Amy Wriston, a Stanwood mother and the administrative vice president of the local chapter of the MOMS Club, its common courtesy for her group to conduct such projects.
We use this park all the time, for our children to play in, Wriston said. In addition to benefitting the community that were part of, it teaches our kids that you should take care of the space that you use. Not only does it model good behavior, but its also part of our Go Green theme of ecological consciousness, in the parties that were staging this year.
This marks the MOMS Clubs first clean-up of Terrace Park, but Wriston hopes to make it a regular event.
Beautiful parks breed beautiful cities, said Arlington mother Gretchen Reed, who was joined by her sons Quinn and Cade in getting dirty. Its important that we keep them clean.
Wriston encouraged local mothers who are interesting in participating in this or other MOMS Club events to contact her at 360-939-0175.
