DARRINGTON A memorial scholarship fund for Darrington students has been established in honor of Kay Shuler Brooks, a member of the Darrington School Board of Directors who died a year ago in February. Born and raised in Darrington, Brooks was a reporter with the Arlington Times from 1998 to 2004. She then took a job with the Sauk-Suiattle Tribe and was elected to a position on the school board of directors in Darrington.
Brooks was very active in sports, coaching teams for her three sons. She also played softball herself in earlier years and was queen of the Timberbowl Rodeo when she was in high school.
The scholarship will be available to graduating seniors as well as students already enrolled in college, according to Brooks mother, Georgine Shuler.
Donations can be sent to the Darrington School District, P.O. Box 27, Darrington, Wash. 98241. All donors will receive a receipt.
For information call Myra Lewis at the school district, 360-436-1323.
