Peiffle named Super Lawyer
ARLINGTON Arlington and Marysvilles city attorneys have both been named Washington Super Lawyers for 2008.
Arlington City Attorney Steve Peiffle, of Bailey, Duskin, Peiffle and Canfield, and Marysville City Attorney Grant Weed, of Weed, Graafstra and Benson, were two of the 12 attorneys selected as Super Lawyers, in the category of government, cities and municipalities, for the state of Washington. This marked Peiffles first time and Weeds third time being named as Super Lawyers.
Only 5 percent of lawyers in the state are named in this fashion by Super Lawyers magazine, whose selections are made by their publisher, Law and Politics. Each year, Law and Politics conducts a statewide survey of lawyers, independent evaluations of candidates by Law and Politics own attorney-led research staff, a peer review of candidates by their practice areas, and good-standing and disciplinary checks.
Both Peiffle and Weed maintain private practices while contracting out to their respective cities. Weeds law offices contract out to a number of different cities and municipal districts, including fire, water and sewer.
When asked for comment, both Peiffle and Weed were gratified, but shrugged off the title. Due to the rigors of the nomination process, they dont know who nominated them, and they dont even know why they were nominated, beyond the evaluation criteria that Law and Politics has established for all of its Super Lawyer candidates.
It was surprising, Peiffle said. Over the years, the vast majority of these awards have gone to lawyers in major metropolitan areas, which is not surprising, since the vast majority of lawyers practice in metropolitan areas.
Im just pleased to see positive recognition for lawyers in general, Weed said. A lot of lawyers do great things, but its the small percentage who do bad things who get a lot of the attention. They deserve to get recognized for providing good service to people.
