Schools hold ‘Bus Ridership Week’

The Arlington School District is conducting its “Bus Ridership Week” Sept. 29-Oct. 3, and is asking that all children who will ride an Arlington school bus at any time during the school year to make sure that they ride the bus this week.

“Our school bus drivers will count your children as they get on the school bus each morning for five days,” said Misti Gilman, public information coordinator for the Arlington School District.

The ASD’s yearly transportation revenue from the state is determined by counting regularly transported students, but only during “Bus Ridership Week.” The remainder of transportation funding comes from local levy funds.

Gilman noted that Arlington school buses travel 4,800 miles each day, and that their buses average 11,000 gallons of fuel consumed per month, just from transporting students.
