Parents who are trying to figure out how to visit Santa and avoid the holiday rush at the mall can visit the Getchell Fire Department's fire station Dec. 16, when Santa will be stopping by. The Getchell Fire Department is providing this at no charge to give kids the opportunity to see Santa and meet the men and women that protect them everyday. Santa is expected to ride in on a big red fire engine at 7 p.m.

There will be several activities at the fire station to get everyone into the holiday spirit. Santa will be posing for pictures as well as giving out candy canes to all the kids. A donation bin will be set up to collect canned food and other items requested by local food banks. Other activities will include a coloring contest, station tours and a real fire engine and aid car for the kids to check out. So, you can visit Santa, enjoy complimentary refreshments and enjoy the holidays at the Getchell Fire Department, at 8424 99th Ave. in Arlington.
