Spring clean-up offered by city

ARLINGTON — The city’s annual Spring Clean-up Day provides an opportunity for residents to dispose of large appliances including refrigerators and freezers, keyboards, printers, copiers, microwaves, recyclable metals and tires, for free, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., June 13 at the 188th Street entrance to the Arlington Airport.

Spring clean-up is for city residents only, and residents must have a voucher to participate. For information call 360-403-3457 or e-mail to mhayes@arlingtonwa.gov

The city is not accepting TVs, monitors or computers this year because the county accepts those items at the transfer station — until June 27, that is.

Snohomish County is once again changing its policy on those items, along with other changes. Transfer station will no longer accept electronics after June 27, because a new free product stewardship program offers recycling of televisions, computers, monitors and laptops through many private and charity locations throughout Snohomish County.

Snohomish County’s Solid Waste Division has announced a change of business hours and some closures at its transfer stations and drop-box locations beginning June 28. The Oso Drop Box (transfer station) will be closed along with Gold Bar’s. Granite Falls will remain open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Sunday, Tuesday and Wednesdays

7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday – Friday

8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday

Hazardous waste Drop-off

The Household Hazardous Waste Drop-off Station in Everett will no longer accept latex paint for recycling. Latex paint can be disposed of at home because it is not considered hazardous waste, but don’t pour it down the drain, said the Solid Waste office assistant, Melissa Davis.

“We ask that people open the lid and let it dry out. Add cat litter or sawdust to absorb the moisture,” Davis said.

Allow the paint to dry thoroughly in a well ventilated area away from children and pets. Once the paint is dried, place the container in the garbage with the lid removed.

The Everett facility will continue to accept hazardous waste for free from households as well as for a fee from small businesses by appointment.
