SMOKEY POINT — Drivers traveling through the SR 531/Interstate 5 (172nd Street NE) interchange can expect delays throughout the week as WSDOT crews build a new onramp.
Construction crews closed the eastbound SR 531 onramps to southbound I-5 just after midnight Sept. 14, and will continue to work on a new southbound ramp.
Work is expected to continue until 11:59 p.m. Sept. 20, WSDOT spokeswoman Meghan Pembroke said. Drivers traveling through the interchange can expect delays.
Pembroke said while WSDOT initially suggested both eastbound and westbound traffic from SR 531 use the recently completed southbound I-5 ramp, drivers can also use the 116th Street NE interchange just south of Smokey Point.
In addition to the new two-lane ramp, crews will be installing new guardrail and other safety improvements.
