Authorities still unsure of what caused Smokey Point Fire

SMOKEY POINT — Officials announced Thursday, Nov. 5, that they have yet to determine the cause of a fire that ravaged a Smokey Point commercial building Nov. 2.

"The cause of this fire will be officially be classified as 'undermined' pending the outcome of the ongoing investigation and the development of additional information and/or evidence," said Kelvin Crenshaw, special agent in charge of the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives' Seattle Field Division.

Officials estimate that the fire, which damaged or destroyed at least five businesses, caused more than $1 million in damages.

No injuries were reported.

An ongoing investigation will be continuing between the Arlington Police Department and the division.

Residents with any information relating to the cause of the fire are encouraged to call the Arlington Police at 360-403-3400.
