Arlington advances in 3A girls soccer tournament and qualifies for state in boys cross country

ARLINGTON — The No. 1-seeded Arlington girls soccer team won a first-round match in the 3A district tournament over Lynnwood 4-1 Oct. 29. Arlington goals: McKenzie Buell scored a hat-trick, and Kirsten Phillips had one more. The Eagles play a quarterfinals game, tonight, at the fifth-seeded Shorecrest at 7 p.m.

MARYSVILLE — The No. 2-seeded Marysville Getchell girls soccer team lost in the first round of the 3A district tournament to Snohomish 2-0 Oct. 29. MG hosts a consolation game against Squalicum tonight 7. If MG wins, it will advance to the semifinal-consolation game against either Lynnwood or Edmonds-Woodway Nov. 3. If it wins that game, MG will compete in a winner-to-state loser-out game Nov. 5.

LANGLEY — The Arlington boys cross country team qualified for state by placing first in the 3A District 1 Championship Oct. 29. The boys championed with 68 points out of 14 teams. Arlington’s top finishers and state qualifiers—5. Kevin Mullin, 16 minutes and 43 seconds; 8. Dawson Andrews, 16:51; 9. Blake Landry, 16:53; 19. Eric Acero-Rosas, 17:07; and 27. Noah Lofits, 17:17. Because Arlington qualified as a team, it will take two additional varsity runners and two alternates. They are—39. Favian Villanueva, 17:50.69; 55; Ryan Barene, 18:09.82; and alternates Nathaniel Alexander and Jackson Darling.

Other local state qualifiers: Marysville Getchell—15. Zachary Arcaro-Frazier, 17:04; 20. Gregory Panther, 17:10; and 21. Channing Frohlich, 17:11.

Local team scores—5. MG, 138; and 13. Marysville-Pilchuck, 387. Lakewood was seventh in the 2A race with 199 points.

LANGLEY — The Arlington girls cross country team placed fifth out of 13 teams with a score of 125 points at the 3A District 1 Championship Oct. 29. Arlington’s state qualifiers—11. Mary Andrews, 20:12; 19. Rachel Sherson, 20:37; and 21. Jensyn Smith, 20:39.

Marysville Getchell placed 10th with 238 points. Julia Rea qualified placing 14th in 20:27.

M-P placed 13th with 400 points. Lakewood was ninth in the 2A race with 243 points.
