Arlington man arrested for threat to kill girlfriend

ARLINGTON – A 38-year-old Arlington man was arrested Sunday after allegedly assaulting and threatening to kill his girlfriend, a sheriff’s spokeswoman said Monday.

At one point the suspect reportedly had a rifle and later an axe. Once the Region 1 SWAT Team arrived and the man wouldn’t give up, they deployed “flash bangs” to finally help apprehend him.

The 9-1-1 call came in about 9:30 p.m. The couple was visiting a friend when the suspect became angry before allegedly striking his girlfriend in the face. He left, but returned about 30 minutes later with a .22-caliber rifle and threatened to kill the victim.

The victim later returned home to their shared residence in the Whitehorse neighborhood. The suspect came around the side of the house with an axe and allegedly shoved the victim backwards as she tried to walk into their residence. The victim fled and called 9-1-1. The SWAT Team tried to contact the man using a Public Address system. When he did not respond, they deployed “flash bangs.” A while later, the suspect gave himself up without any further incident. He was booked into the Snohomish County Jail in Everett for 2nd degree assault/domestic violence.
