Arlington netters win district title

MARYSVILLE — It’s been 20 years since Arlington won a district title in volleyball.

The top-seeded Eagles won the 3A district championship defeating Squalicum 3-1 Nov. 5. It was the first time the Eagles took the crown and made a state run since 1996.

In just her third season coaching Arlington, Whitney Williams is quite pleased.

“This is definitely a big deal,” Williams said. “Overall, this has been the most-successful season in school history with being Wesco champions, district champions and planning to make a good run at state.”

Arlington highlights: Senior hitters Ashley Baker led with 19 kills and 13 digs, and Morgan Van Laar added 14. Senior and libero Hannah Michaels led with 36 digs.

Arlington travels to the Toyota Center in Kennewick to challenge Bellevue in the first round of the 3A state tournament, Friday, Nov. 11, at 1:30 p.m.
