Marysville police investigate weekend freeway off-ramp crashes; 1 fatality

MARYSVILLE – Marysville intestigators are still investigating separate crashes from last weekend at the Interstate 5 off-ramp and Fourth Street that left one driver dead and a motorcyclist injured.

In the first collision, a 60-year-old Brier man died Friday after veering off the northbound I-5 exit ramp in and hitting another vehicle heading west on Fourth Street.

The crash occurred about 2:45 a.m. when the driver’s car drifted left up the off-ramp and collided with the other vehicle, Marysville police Sgt. Pete Shove reported. The man died at the scene.

The driver of the second vehicle, a Marysville man, 46, was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

The collision investigation unit hasn’t yet determined whether impairment was a factor that led the man to lose control, though police believe the car’s speed left the roadway at 50 mph without braking.

The intersection at Fourth and I-5 was closed all directions while police investigated and did not reopen until 6 a.m.

On Sunday night, a 52-year-old Granite Falls man was transported in critical condition to Providence Regional Medical Center after his motorcycle collided with another vehicle at I-5 and Fourth. The crash remains under investigation by police. The Washington State Patrol also responded to the scene.
