David A. (Frank) Cyra

David A. (Frank) Cyra of Bellevue, Washington passed away on Sunday, July 31, 2016. David was born in 1925 into the family with four sisters and two brothers – Willow, Anne (Catherine), Maureen (Elizabeth), Patricia, Rod and John in Arlington, WA, to Dorothy Catherine and John (Jack) Cyra.

After serving his country during WWII in the Army Air Forces, he graduated from Seattle University and then began an accomplished career in the Bellevue School District as a teacher, assistant principal and then principal of Highland Junior High and Hyak Junior High.

He was instrumental in promoting Social Security program registration in the district and advocating for the inclusion of special education and gifted programs opportunities for all children.

An avid outdoorsman, he and Dorothy instilled a love of the outdoors in their children with numerous hiking and camping trips; he and Dorothy became world travelers in their 30-plus years of active retirement.

After the passing of daughter Nancy in 2015, he is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Dorothy (Edgerton), sister Patricia and his children Sandy, Linda, Tom, Bruce and Keith and their families. David and Dorothy have 10 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday September 10, 2016.
