Our biggest misconception about levies
April 12, 2011 · 8:06 AM
The biggest misconception my husband and I had about levies is that they just keep piling on top of each other. It wasn’t until I actually volunteered for one that I found out that they have expiration dates. Come to find out that all levies are approved by the voters only for a certain timeline. Then when the timeline is about to expire, the levy committee starts to campaign for it to be renewed.
My current work is on the EMS levy. This is such a necessity that we renew for Arlington. If it isn’t passed then we could lose paramedic services after the end of this year. In some cities in the U.S., when their levy didn’t pass, they now have to pay $200 with every call to 9-1-1. There goes your good Samaritans.
I urge our community to vote Yes on Prop. 1, so that we can all feel safe, knowing that our medical help is just a phone call away.
