I was on the Board of Cascade Valley Hospital for almost twenty years and Chairman for a good part of that time. Even though I retired a few years ago I have kept in touch with the affairs of the District and feel the need to speak out on what is currently happening in the race for commissioner between Margo Powell and Dr. Jeff Cartwright. He claims the Hospital is in financial trouble, the infection rate is too high and doctors are continuously leaving. These claims are simply not true and have been proven to be false. He is running on a platform of change but, in my opinion, has not pointed out any area of the hospital that requires change based on performance. Change is sometimes good but, could also be counter productive when the hospital is operating as one of the most profitable in the State. I would ask if he still has specific changes he feels needs to be made, based on facts, to bring them forth for the voters to review prior to the election.

I obviously support Margo Powell to be reelected to the position of commissioner which she has held for the last eleven years. Having worked with Margo I know of her dedication to the District and especially to her home town of Darrington. For years Darrington has had a representative on the Board and this would change should she not retain her position. Having a Board that works well together is invaluable when giving direction to the Hospital and I feel Margo is deserving of your vote.
