Lakewood athletes, coaches receive conference honors

LAKEWOOD — A total of 20 combined Lakewood athletes and coaches across four fall sports have received all-Cascade Conference recognition.
Dan Teeter is the conference’s football coach of the year.
“It’s a complete team thing,” Teeter said. “We have a great staff and group of kids who bought into what we wanted to do.”
Junior quarterback/defensive back Justin Peterson made both the first-team offensive and defensive teams, finishing with 1,123 passing yards for 11 touchdowns, 701 rushing yards for 18 touchdowns, 350 receiving yards for five touchdowns, 64 tackles and six interceptions.
Senior running back/linebacker Christian Melton rushed for 548 yards and eight touchdowns, recorded 92 tackles, a sack and three forced fumbles to make both the first team offensive and defensive teams and win the Cascade defensive MVP award.
Junior running back Donovan Evans made the second-team offense with nine rushing touchdowns and two receiving.
Senior tight end Dustin Stanton was an offensive first-teamer and defensive second-teamer, even after being sidelined by injury, snagging three touchdowns and recording 42 tackles, half a sack and a fumble recovery.
Junior wide receiver Brandon Stott rushed for two touchdowns and received six more to earn a first-team offensive honor.
Senior offensive lineman Thomas Raught racked up 46 tackles and a forced fumble to pair a second-team defensive recognition with his first-team offensive award.
Senior offensive lineman Brayden Burbee anchored the offense all season to make the first-team offensive rank.
Senior defensive lineman Jerrod Jones made the first-team defense with 29 tackles, a sack and a fumble recovery.
Senior outside hitter Brittany Parmantier was a terror for opposing defenses, racking up kills to become a volleyball first-teamer.
Lakewood girls soccer coach Jeremiah Wohlgemuth split the girls soccer coach of the year with Cedarcrest coach Evan Hatch, leading his team to an 11-3 league record, 15-5-1 overall to reach the 2A District Semifinals.
“I’m honored to be selected among the elite coaches, but more importantly it says a lot about the team,” Wohlgemuth said. “I’m glad that we exceeded the league’s expectations with back-to-back state trips.”
Junior defender Kennady Bonnallie and senior goalkeeper Miranda Head made the Cascade first team.
Sophomore forward Shantel St. Jean, sophomore midfielder Hailey Duitsman, junior midfielder Taylor Studzinski and senior defender Anna Kuchler made the second team.
Lakewood cross country coach Jeff Sowards was awarded Girls Cross Country Coach of the Year.
“I work with fantastic people,” Sowards said of winning an award for which his Cascade Conference coaches and peers had elected him. “It’s an honor.”
Lakewood senior Kris Mugrage and sophomore Mitchell Darrah made the boys first team. Sophomore Drew Cables was named to the boys second team.
Senior Rachel Cundy made the girls first team. Freshman Darby Throndsen and sophomore Rachel Sowards made the second team.
