TACOMA — The Arlington girls basketball team advanced to the semifinal game of the 2013 Hardwood Classic State Basketball Championships, after a victory in the quarterfinals on Thursday, Feb. 28, at the Tacoma Dome.
The Eagles topped Gonzaga Prep in 43-40 win — a nail-biter for the hundreds of Arlington fans who came to watch. The Eagles held a lead for most of the first three quarters, but Gonzaga Prep made a big run in the fourth, putting some pressure on the Eagles in the last few seconds of the game. A 3-point goal from the Bullpups would have tied the game and put it into overtime, but the Eagles' consistently strong defense kept them going.
Senior Lindsay Brown led the group with 13 points, while Krista Showalter and Jessica Ludwig each scored seven points.
The Eagles face Lake Stevens in the semifinal game today at 7:15 p.m. at the Tacoma Dome. If they beat the Vikings, they'll advance to the state title game on Saturday, March 2, at 7 p.m.
