Register early to save $5 on Rivers and Rails Run

ARLINGTON – Register early and save $5 on the Arlington Runners Club's River & Rails Run registration fee. The race will be held on Saturday, March 23.

In order to take advantage of the $5 saving for pre-registering the Arlington Runners Club must receive the registration form no later than Saturday, March 16. Fees for pre-registration are $20, while day of race is $25. Registration forms can be mailed to Arlington Runners Club, 17906 39th Drive NE in Arlington.

The River & Rails Run is a fundraiser for the Cocoon House, a nonprofit organization that helps local teenagers. The course follows the Centennial Trail north of Haller Park and it is an out and back paved course with the starting and finishing line located near Haller Park at 1100 N. West Ave.

There is a staggered start with the 10k runners starting at 10 a.m. and the 5k runners starting at 10:10 a.m. Awards will be handed out starting at 11 a.m. for the 5k finishers and shortly after those awards are handed out the 10k awards will begin.

There are trophies for the first place 5k men, 5k women, 10k men and 10k women, as well as first, second and third place ribbons for men's and women's age categories. Children 14 and under will receive orange participant ribbons to encourage their participation. There will be a few door prizes and snacks for the racers after the race.

"I would like to thank the volunteers, officers and members of Arlington Runners Club and the volunteers and staff and volunteers of Cocoon House – without your help we will not be able to pull off this event," said Jon Hatfield, of the Arlington Runners Club.

"We have some great sponsors to help us provide shirts and awards we will be handing out on race day. Without sponsorships we wouldn't be able to donate the registration fees to these charities."
