Lakewood grapplers rally over La Conner

LAKEWOOD The Lakewood wrestling team came out on the winning side of two boy-girl match-ups to rally from an 18-3 deficit to La Conner, winning the Dec. 4 match 47-24.
Sophomore and returning state wrestler Keely Caldwell came back from a point deficit to pin La Conners Dan Biladeau, winning the 130-pound weight class and putting junior teammate Kolten Baker in position for the go-ahead score with a pin of La Conners Ashley Norton.
Baker secured the pin in two minutes and 14 seconds.
Before some key wins in the lighter classes, things werent looking so rosy for the Cougars. Senior Aaron Leonard won the opening match in the 171-pound class by an 11-10 decision, but the Braves came up with pins in the 189, 215 and heavyweight classes to take a commanding team lead.
A La Conner forfeit in the 112 weight class closed the margin in Lakewoods favor, and the Cougars came within a score when freshman Josh Moore pinned the Braves Jeremy Travis in 3:23 in the 119 class.
After a loss by Josh Linscott, Caldwells victory sent up a roar through the Lakewood fan base.
Her team won the rest of their matches in regulation.
Junior Austin Schulz pinned La Conner sophomore Macky Zavala at 140 pounds in 1:58 and junior Steve Bingham pinned Arther Brown at 145 pounds in 1:36.
Juniors Billy McKeever and Jason Mueller closed out the match with victories by decision at 152 and 160 pounds.
