M-P grad picked in MLB draft
Recent Marysville alum Nick Haughian 05, was picked in the ninth round of the Major League Baseball draft by the Baltimore Orioles.
The left-handed pitcher went 10-0 his senior year under coach Josh Rosenbach, earning first-team all-state kudos and leading his team to a state quarterfinals appearance.
As a freshman at the University of Washington, Haughian pitched relief in 21 games. During his sophomore season in 2007, he started 13 games. Haughian also played summer ball for the Wenatchee AppleSox.
Turnover in Darrington
Students returning to the Darrington athletic program this fall should expect some changes.
Darrington boys basketball coach Jeff Bryson, who led the Loggers to the state tournament in 10 of his 17 seasons including 2006-07 and 2007-08, has accepted a position with the Arlington School District. Bryson will teach math and serve as an assistant coach for the Arlington basketball team.
His three sons attend Arlington schools and his wife teaches kindergarten there.
Following Brysons announcement, Darrington athletic director Kim Wardwell released a statement that, he too, has spent his last season in Darrington athletics. Wardwell, who taught social studies at Darrington, will return to Idaho where he plans to marry a former high school classmate.
Darrington school superintendent Larry Johnson and athletic secretary Linn Brooks will divide duties.
