MARYSVILLE The Eagles picked up their first Wesco North league win in a hard fought 34-32 victory at the Jim Linden Fieldhouse in the come-from-behind victory over Mark Davis.
The Thursday, Jan. 18, match came down to the last match as the visiting Eagles entered the 285-lb. heavyweight bout trailing 32-31.
Based on crowd reaction alone, the 5-4 victory appeared to be one of the most exciting of the evening.
M-Ps Bryant Dickerson got off to a 4-1 advantage before Davis chipped away and eked out the 5-4 victory in the final seconds of the third period.
Asked if he felt any added pressure with the match results hinging on his battle, the sophomore said he enjoyed the spotlight.
Yeah I could feel everyone out there cheering for me, but I think it gave me more of a reason to win, he said while being surrounded by teammates.
Arlington began the league contests by losing the first two matches, but rallied with a 15-4 triumph at 119-lb. from freshman Chris Berg.
Junior Steven White got the Eagles back in the win column with a pin at 1:19 of his 130-lb. match with Nick Libbing.
Sophomore Max Scherf triumphed 10-3 to pull AHS to within three points at 16-13 in his 135-lb. match and junior Jessy Bosley won by pin at 1:02 of the second period to tie the match at 19-all.
In the back-and-forth match, sophomore Chris Myers tied the score again at 25-all with a pin at 1:14 of his 160-lb. battle.
Jordan Anderson also pinned his opponent, taking 1:48 in the 171-lb. weight class to give the Eagles a 31-25 advantage.
After consecutive M-P wins, AHS entered the final heavyweight match trailing 32-31.
The victory improved Arlingtons record to 1-4 in league competition and 10-5 overall. M-P dropped to 1-5, 4-6.
