Athlete of the Week: Hayley Bustad
August 27, 2008 · Updated 7:11 PM
Scoring four goals in two games qualifies as a great week for any soccer player. Scoring four including during two Cascade League match victories is even better.
Senior forward Hayley Bustad of Lakewood High School led the Cougars to an undefeated week with wins over South Whidbey and Sultan. Bustad tallied two goals in the Whidbey game, a 4-3 Cougar victory, including one where she used her strength to bully past the opposing sweeper one-on-one before firing on goal. She scored both goals including the match winner against Sultan in the first half of their Oct. 4 clash, carrying the team to a 2-1 win.
We were really pumped up for these games, said Bustad. Im a vocal person and I really tried to encourage our team this past week.
The Cougars have evened their league record and now are looking to move up in the second half of the season.
I see it going well for us, said Bustad. Weve found it within ourselves to keep doing better. For most of us its our senior year and we want to go out big.
