Dick’s Towing makes Strawberry tourney bracket
MARYSVILLE — Hard hitting and steady defense gave Marysville Little League team Dick’s Towing a convincing 11-0 win over Granite Falls and a berth into the Strawberry Tournament bracket.
Catcher Kanim Posey, who batted 3-for-3, wrapped up the game with an inside-the-park, walk-off home run to bat in the 10th run and end the June 2 game in four innings.
“The boys just came out to play today,” said Dick’s Towing manager Carlos Gonzalez after the game at Marysville’s Cedar Field. “They brought their bats, they played hard.”
Shortstop Collin Holeman was also 3-for-3 at the plate, batting in two runs and scoring each time he was on base. Alex Gonzalez pitched a complete game, striking out five and batting 2-for-3.
The Marysville team, which tied for first in the National league during the regular season, held on to their lead through their defense. Dick’s Towing protected second base, Holeman tagging Granite Falls’ lone baserunner as he tried to steal in the first inning. They also aggressively went after the lead runner, scoring the third out in the fourth inning by going to second instead taking the conventional out at first.
Dick’s scored four runs in the bottom of the first and added to their tally in each inning. After leadoff batter Austin Maganas was stopped at first base, five of the next six batters registered hits, cluminating in second baseman Ben White’s two-run double to center field. Gonzalez, Holeman and Posey all registered hits again in the second inning, each scoring runs with Posey’s triple converting on a pass ball at the plate.
White walked in the third inning and scored on Hunter Woods’ double, which turned into the team’s ninth run on an RBI single by Maganas.
The game showed Dick’s Towing firing on all cylinders, the team’s batting in particular as strong as it has been all season.
“We improved as we went along,” Gonzalez said.
