Stilly Valley's 11-year-old softball stars eliminated

LYNNWOOD — Though the outcome was in little doubt after about four innings, the Stilly Valley majors sealed their victory with six runs in the sixth inning to defeat the North Everett all-stars 11-1.

The Stilly Valley boys were doing almost everything right in the July 1 game at Lynndale Park in Lynnwood, getting on the board early with Tristan Jager's RBI single to score Tim Kolling.

Shawn Adams was a threat on both sides of the ball, hitting a double to get things started in the top of the second inning, eventually scoring the first of his three runs. He also relieved Matt Seiber and Connor Bovard on the mound in the third inning to close out the game. He struck out six in three 2/3 innings.

"We tried to stick with 20 pitches to keep (Seiber and Bovard) active" for upcoming games, said manager Rich Bovard.

Bovard knocked a single in the second setting up Noah Sorenson's RBI. Peter Chung and and Tim Kolling each added hits, the latter batting in Sorenson, for a 3-0 lead. Shortstop Hunter Fritz scored in the third inning, continuing Stilly Valley's scoring streak on an RBI by Bryce Human. Adams scored again in the fourth inning, his single batted in by Garrett Wiseman's down-the-middle double.

Walked to lead off the fifth inning, Fritz nearly scored for Stilly Valley but for the speedy reactions of an Everett infielder, who sent the ball home for a tag. Stilly Valley had three players called out going for home plate.

Instead, leading off with Adams in the sixth, Stilly Valley combined walks and hits to take an 11-0 lead. No mercy rule was enforced since North Everett would have a last opportunity to come back in the bottom of the inning.

North Everett's leadoff batter in the sixth inning mustered a solo home run, but that was all the scoring they would come up with as Stilly Valley advanced.
