SPOKANE — A trio of Arlington 3-on-3 teams took home top honors June 26 from the world’s largest basketball tournament, Hoopfest in Spokane.

Geeks in Sneaks, consisting of Lindsay Brown, Taylor Graham, Marissa Swegle and Krista Showalter, won their championship 19-13.

“It was just amazing to see both sides of the street filled with Arlington fans,” said Showalter.

Stifflers Mom and Hot Dawgs were also the last teams standing in their specific groups.

Dan Boyden, of Stifflers Mom, sunk a final free throw to defeat a team from Issaquah. Along with Boyden, Stifflers mom was comprised of Terry Dawn, Skylor Elgarico and A.J. Passalacqua.

And finally, the Hot Dawgs successfully complete a three-peat with their victory. The Hot Dawgs was made up of Megan Abdo, Jensen Evans, Lauren Grogan and Cassie Van Loo.

More than 7,000 teams competed on the streets of Spokane at Hoopfest, which Showalter said made it hard to scout teams, but she offered a few words of advice.

“You kind of just have to be on a mission, and my dad gets maps and plans out where every team we want to watch is going to be.”

All three teams plan on entering the Tulalip 3-on-3 tournament in August.
