TACOMA – The Arlington girls basketball team was knocked out of the state 3A basketball tournament this afternoon, losing to West Seattle 50-45.

The Eagles had a 13-9 lead after the first quarter, but West Seattle outscored them 19-8 in the second period to take a 28-21 halftime lead.

West Seattle led by as many as 10 in the third, but the Eagles came back to within one in the fourth.

Arlington struggled shooting, finishing 13-for-51 for the game and 4-for-26 from 3-point range.

Sophomore Hailey Hiatt led the Eagles with 16 points, including three of the team’s 3-pointers.

The eighth-ranked Eagles’ loss to ninth-ranked West Seattle was a trend that went on all day with the favorites being knocked off.

No. 11 Snohomish upset No. 6 Seattle Prep 42-39; No. 15 Edmonds-Woodway shocked No. 8 Bethel 54-45; and No. 12 Roosevelt stunned No. 5 Peninsula 60-56. Meanwhile, Arlington Coach Joe Marsh was named Coach of the Year in the 3A Wesco league this season.

Standout shooter Sierra Scheppele was named first team all-league, while sophomore Josie Stupey was named to the second team. Both Hailey Hiatt and Keira Marsh received honorable mention honors.
