Arlington loses season debut to Lake Stevens

ARLINGTON — The Arlington girls basketball team finished second in state last season but graduated nine seniors. The Eagles still return a few players with state experience. Coach Joe Marsh aims to build around the returning talent. Senior Abby Anderson returns at guard, and so does 6-foot-2 senior Tahlia Miears at center. Peyton Brown will be a junior at guard.

Newcomers senior guard Reilly Kesserling and junior forward Kelsey Mellick will be notable contributors, Marsh said. Mellick led with 13 points in Arlington’s season-opening 48-38 loss to Lake Stevens Nov. 30.

“Our goals are to build our team this season, compete in every tough non-league schedule and prepare for our league,” Marsh said, adding that a district playoff game would be a goal. He said he thinks defending district champion Lynnwood, Edmonds-Woodway and Stanwood will be the teams to beat in the Wesco 3A North.
