Eagles, MG girls romp over foes

The Arlington Eagle girls have won six of their last eight games, defeating Marysville-Pilchuck 65-14 Wednesday night.

Kelsey Mellick got Arlington off to a fast start scoring inside and on a drive to put the visitors up 7-3. Sophomore guard Sierra Scheppele stole the ball, made two free throws, then scored a 3-pointer and after freshman Hailey Hiatt hit another 3 the Eagles led 16-5 after one period.

Arlington’s scrappy defense harassed M-P the entire game. In the second period, Hiatt scored after grabbing an offensive rebound and hit two free throws, Scheppele hit another 3 and Mellick stole the ball and went in for a layup to make it 26-5, and the game was basically over after 1 1/2 quarters.

Scheppele scored 16 and Mellick 14 to lead Arlington, which is now 9-7 on the year. Hiatt scored 7, Abby Schwark 6, Maciee Delaney and Alaina Duskin 5 each, Georgia Arnold and Josie Stupey 3 each, and Peyton Brown 2.

For the home team, Mary Moses had 5, Miriah Summers 4, Danika Loucks 2, and Brittany Stelz, Mackensie Connelly and Lauren Lewis 1 apiece.

Also Wednesday night, Marysville Getchell beat Oak Harbor easily 53-28.

The Chargers blew the game open in the second period, after holding the visitors to 1 point for 1 1/2 quarters as the Wildcats struggled against MG’s press.

A sweet pass from sophomore guard Kortney Crane to Abby Pfeil put MG up 20-4. A drive by junior Kiki Green, a three-point play by sophomore Brionna Palm and an outside shot by Sydney Norton helped the home team outscore Oak Harbor 22-10, on the way to the rout.

Mylanie Cabrera scored 16 points, Pfeil 14 and Palm 10 to lead MG, 3-13. Norton added 5, Madison Hagglund and Crane 3 each and Green 2.

In boys basketball Cameron Stordahl scored 28 points and MG built a 40-16 halftime lead to beat Oak Harbor.

Malakhi Knight added 14, Ethan Jackson 12 and Matt Thomas 11 for MG, 6-10.
